World of Speed--Saturday, Sept 18, 2004
Conditions this morning made for exceptional salt conditions. Dozens of cars and motorcycles were in line ready for runs. Windy conditions persist and have caused a temporary halt in long course runs at 11:45 am, but have been allowing some excellent runs.
George Field's Trackmaster Fabrication Special made an outstanding 301 MPH qualifing run on a 279 MPH record. That run had an exit speed of 305+, indicating that there might be more power left.
#793 John Noonan riding his white Hayabusa had a 235 MPH pass with a 239 exit speed. Incomplete timing data on that run has them in line when they would like to be in impound.
There are a number more potentially very fast cars here. The Danny Boy car of Tradup and Thomason is in line sporting a larger engine than in the recent past running in B/FS. The Burkland's liner is here, but as yet still on the dolly in the pits. The Chet Herbert car is also in the pits with the crew working to get all 32 cylinders running in harmony.

#887 Jim Higgens Motorcycle M/PBF 1350 New Record @ 155.475 MPH
#479 Jesse Winders I/MMPu New Record @ 88.618 MPH
Not bad for a VW 4cylinder engine running only 2 pistons (57 CID)
#53 Roy Creel in V4/ALT @154.973 MPH
#313 Dan Webster backed up yesterdays fine run to raise the XF/BGCC Record to 161.093 MPH
#203 G/FR driven by Paula Burns New Record at 156.676
#56 F/BStr driven by Jorgen Moller set a new class record @ 196.880 MPH
Ron Jay raised the A/PG 250 CC Motorcycle record to 84.079 MPH
An update on the incident with the Nish Streamliner, It is back in it's pit this morning and appears to have suffered only pretty minor body damage. It is enough to keep it from further runs at this event, but it will likely be running at World finals.
I'll post more speed news as it happens.
We are still on hold for cross winds at 12:35 PM.
End of day report 6:30 PM
Wind continued all afternoon. There was sustained wind of 10 - 20 MPH with
frequent gusts to 30 MPH. Blowing salt made visibility difficult at times.
The only action was on the 130 MPH Club Course. There runs continued all
day. The lower speeds and more stable conventional vehicles were not seriously
affected by the wind.
The wind blew over porta potties, stole tarps, chairs and tables, and resulted
in damage to at least one racing vehicle. The Ford SHO Tarus of Ernie Grose
suffered a broken rear windshield when the shade awning from an adjacent
pit was blown into the air and smashed down thru the rear windo. In true
Bonneville racer tradition Ernie and crew reinforced the broken backlight
with--Duct tape, and carried on.
Vehicles in impound will be given priority first thing in the morning hoping to get runs in in the anticipated calm of early morning. Vehicles in impound include:
